After a huge amount of interest at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche has now started to accept customer orders for its 918 Spyder hybrid. The sports car uses unique plug-in hybrid technology and could prove a catalyst in the production of high performance electric vehicles.
Porsche is feeling the burn to reduce the combined emissions of its luxury line-up by using hybrid drive systems. Like other luxury car manufacturers, its cars feature powerful but polluting engines.
Porsche has confirmed that its 918 Spyder supercar will go into production.
A concept version of the revolutionary plug-in hybrid model shocked the automotive community when it was displayed at the Geneva motor show in March.
The supercar has CO2 emissions of 70g/km and can do 0-62mph in 3.2 secs.
Its top speed is 198mph.
