The Engineering Employers Federation (EEF) has criticised the short timetable being proposed before the Default Retirement Age is phased out in the UK from April 2011, which it believes will give manufacturers insufficient time to prepare for such an important change.

The question as to whether or not a coalition Government is good for the manufacturing industry is one that only time can answer.   However, Britain’s manufacturers have welcomed the agreement set out by the coalition, giving it an early boost.  

EEF’s pay data for the three months to the end of March 2010 shows that the average UK pay settlement has risen very slightly to 1.0 percent from the figure of 0.9 percent for the previous three month period to the end of February.
